Lyrics
I saw you out in the day time and I saw you throughout the night and now I’m wondering when
you get your shut eye and I’m wondering when I get my shut eye and I’m wondering when we get
our shut eye and I’m wondering when will we get our shut eye. Our shut eye. You were wide awake
at dawn and you were just getting started at dusk and now I’m wondering…
Skin & Space
When you close your eyes what do you see? Is the story unfolding or is the room spinning?
There’s virtually nothing between you and me, just skin and space. The skin between us tries to
keep us separated and feeling the space between us grows and shrinks we’re ever accessorizing on display
our identifying features are familiarizing they portray our internal workings in the lines on our faces
everybody look into the eyes of the one beside you. What is between you? It’s just skin that holds the
insides in and it’s just skin that keeps the outsides out. There’s such a slight separation between us but
we still feel such a distance. Close your eyes. Can you make out my features? When I close my eyes you’re
blurred even after all these years. When we close our eyes we cease to see ourselves reflected in the open
eyes of all those that we’ve effected. The space between us expands and contracts. Our pupils dilate, to the
light they react. Despite the constant motion of our planet’s rotations, in this moment, in this space, in
this skin there’s a stillness. Our nerves supply data true to form we record all that transpires, every breeze,
every word in this stillness. Close your eyes and cease to see yourself reflected in the open eyes of those
that you’ve effected. Thanks to the constant motion of our planet's revolutions in this moment in this space
in this skin there is movement. There’s something between us. Can we see ourselves reflected in the open
eyes of those we’ve been effected by? This space and this skin are all that keep us. What is between us?
Following an Ascent
These bones have a way about them that shapes and sends their owners but what lacks is all the straps that
keep us, I mean them, attached. These blades on our backs just waiting for the feathers to attach, believe me,
the water they'll bead, the wind they'll receive when we finally leave the sea will be sufficient for the ascent.
On the climb we'll get teary-eyed. You know what comes next... dive, dive. Descend like you never knew the flew.
Like only the machines could fly you. Descend like you never flew.
Who You Self Contained Unit
Well, I tune you in and I tune you out. We get left in and we can get left out. You can write your notes, you can
throw your stones. You can go alone but you’re not on your own. I know you. You don’t have to prove anything to me.
I know you think you have proof. When you look around you what do you see? Are gasses exchanged? Is anything
photosynthesizing? You think you’re alone? You can’t even breathe on your own. You know you know enough to know
that you don’t know. I know you think you need forgiveness from me. I know you just need to forgive you. What do
you do you self contained unit? You produce and consume, are preyed upon and predacious. Who do you answer to and
what do you say when you do? How do you do it you self-contained unit? Well, we tune us in and we tune us out. We
get brought in and we can bring us out. We know we know enough to know that we don’t know. Unable to photosynthesize
and you think you’re alone? You can’t even breathe on your own.
Calling All Sore Spots
We call across the cable. All words lead back to here. We talk as if we’re able to respond to ourselves, to hear.
It’s our route through the sound and we keep calling out. We sit and we score until we fit in the storage in a stable.
The ruts, we wear us out. We spit and we sore while we fill all our pores with pavement. The cost, we feign no blame.
And our route is all around. But let’s not leave us out. And on our own we count the stones on our cave-in. Please
respond to the sound of our call out to all sore spots. Come back to the cause. All across, it’s enough to give us pause.
Do you recall the movement popularized in your youth to remove the truth from the motions accrued? Corroborate with this
caveat: it’s got to start inside of you.
AfterNextNowThenBefore
Where do we go now that all the sights have been seen? We see what we want to see. You are looking at me. I am looking
back at you. Is there something to see? When these eyes open what will they see? My, how we put one over on you, and you,
and me. The sound of our crying was never meant to be heard. What were you thinking when you said those words? Once said
you cannot take back what your soul chose to speak. You rescind, renegotiate and correct. We’re all strong and we are all weak.
Now Evades
O, how do you know who you are? Who are you? O, how do you know who you are? O, how do you know what you know? What do
you know? O, how do you know what you know? It’s good what you do when you do it. Why do you do what other people do? It’s
good what you do when you do it. Why do you do what other people don’t? I’ve been wary up to now but wait, up to now but wait,
now always seems to evade. I’ve been aware up to now but wait, up to now but wait, now always seems to evade. Where are you? How
do you know? How do you do? Now you’re thinking again rather than intuit. O, how do you know what to do? What do you do? O, how do
you know what to do? O, how do you know how to do? How do you do it? O, how do you know how to do? It’s good what you do when
you do it. Why don’t you do what other people do? It’s good what you do when you do it. Why don’t you do what other people don’t?
I’ve been wary up to now but wait, up to now but wait, now always seems to evade. I’ve been aware up to now but wait, up to now but
wait, now always seems to evade.
Addressing Numbness
Where I’m from there’s a numbness. Some succumb to it, some run and some confront it. Sometimes you must hide from it or hide it
from the skies above it. This numbness where I’m from has no name we rarely refer to it. When we do we call it contained in our words
as if it no longer works on us. We‘ve never known any other way. Where will we go when we can’t stay? We keep listening to our overture.
We keep saying that we’re so sure. We roped a dope in our own way but don’t consider yourselves contained.
When What Was Wrong Was Wrong
When will we learn? Who’s going to teach us? When we blur, when we see all the features? I’m trying to see all the signs, rest in
peace all the time, move my feet across the lines that I’d drawn when what was wrong was wrong. I sat alone with the oaks, made my peace
with all the folks. Move my feet, slowly they go. What’s the time? Ask the crow. Let your eyes soften. Let your eyes go.
